No software wants to include something that's seldom available. But at this point it's sort of a chicken or an egg. Unfortunately Creative Labs bought up Ensoniq and more or less absorbed the brand and that patent. What they did find is one could choke the MIDI stream doing thick chords or other playing that generated a fair amount so they used to put a note on how to disable it if you were connected to something that would start choking. Historically, Ensoniq came up with a patented way to built a Poly Aftertouch controller keybed for very little more than one without it and included it on a bunch of their unweighted keyboards. And Poly AT key A#4 can be assigned to something else. My point was at that point it's not really usable as poly AT since the knob is not tied to a note being played, but if you can assign say your other assignable piece of software or hardware to respond to PolyAT key A4 then it becomes like another continuous controller to use and assign. So that knob will send a stream of Poly Aftertouch for the note assigned, say A4. I've seen the ability to assign say Poly Aftertouch key to an assignable knob on a midi controller. I'm not familiar but this may tie in with my side point which elicited a earlier on this thread.
